aptasia

I had some nast aptasia. and almost killed everything in my tank by using the hot water method. will now I remove the rock and kill the aptasia out side of my tank. one piece of rock had it so bad that I got sick of it so I boiled the rock it hasn't came back. I am now apasia free. wheeeew. maybe my method is unconventional but it worked for me. ryan

Aiptasia blooms are definitely a problem. If not corrected at an early stage you will have a major problem. There are many ways to treat the problem before it gets out of hand. Peppermint shrimp will eat the small ones and do a good job as far as controlling Aiptasia populations in your tank. Joe's Juice as well as vinegar, Kalkwasser solution, just to name a few also work well(use a syringe to inject into the mouth of the anemone).

What do I do if its allready gotten out of hand?
ive gone through about 3 bottles of joes juice and each time within a few days more are popping up all over!!

 

Peppermint shrimp will do the job. When I first started my saltwater aquarium I had a lot of aiptasia. I didn't know that they were bad, so I started to feed them. I was amazed on how they would catch the food and eat. I started to feed them twice a day and boy did they multiply fast. I went to my LFS and they had some in their tank and I told the man that I had a lot of them if he wanted to trade. He laughed, and told me to get rid of them, I had over 20 aiptasia. I bought a peppermint shrimp and in one week I was aiptasia free, and none grew back.
