Hey, so I recently grabbed an Aqua C EV-120, it is an 07 model, with the old injectors. So I went ahead and called em up and ordered the new injector for it blah blah blah. Hooked it up, let it break in and within 48 hours was cranking out skimmate. However, every single time anything touches the tank, meaning hands, RO top off, buffers, feeding etc. the skimmer goes back to doing nothing. Which I expected based on previous reading. My main concern is that it takes like 8-10 hours to start doing anything again. What is wrong here? It is a bit concerning that after I feed once, it takes half a day to skim anything.

Could I be under powering the skimmer with my crappy Rio on it?

    Any input is always appreciated.

I have the EV 180 and had been running the Mag 7 (recommended) on it. It seemed like after touching anything or feeding the tank it would take forever for the bubble column to come back. I also had a real hard time getting any "wet" skimmate. I finally decided that since I had a Mag Dive 9 I should try it, and I am so glad I did. If you have the means to use the bigger pump I would do it. It still takes a while for the bubbles to come back after a feeding but it seems to be a shorter period of time and when it does start skimming it makes up for the lost time. Hope that helps.

Yeah it seems like that is the only solution. Wanna sell that Mag 7 you had?! LOL that would be the overdrive pump for me ;)

    Thanks again.

A Mag 5 is recommended. A Mag 7 is optional. You might have to dial it back with a valve to keep from overflowing the skimmer. I didn't but some do. A Mag 9 is a waste of pump. The 120 simply can't handle that much water.

Any feeding is going to kill the bubbles because of the oils. Same with hands in the tank. It has nothing to do with skimmer performance. All skimmers do it.

As far as it taking so long to produce again... it gcould just be that your tank is clean. Skimmers only remove if something is there.

Get it dialed in. Get it running consistent. Put a Mag 7 on it if you wish. See how it goes. EV-120 can be a bit finicky. A constant water level in your sump is critical.

Yeah. I was sure it was going to happen, I was just blown away at the restart time. I talked to AquaC and they mentioned also that this skimmer is very dependent on pressure. They noted that the mag 5 had a max pressure of near 10 ft. Were as the rio only has 7.5 and that gph was a secondary figure for this skimmer. I don't think the tank could be that clean since overnight where nothing is being tough it cranks. But all day nothing happens. Well have to see how a new pump goes. Thanks for the replies!

Sorry if I was confusing but I wasn't suggesting using a Mag 9 on a 120. Just using my own experience that with the Ev i had better luck using the next size up in pumps. Just had to clarify as I don't want to give bad advice.

I am swapping my return pump for my Mag 7 so I won't be able to sell it. Sorry:cry:

I'm curious... what type of plumbing do you have between your pump and 120? Seems you would want your 9 as return and 7 on the skimmer. What difference did you get when you went from the 7 to the 9.5 on your 120?

I see where the confusion came from, I have a 180 not a 120. I was just using my situation as an example.
