Okay I am new to this..... hooked up the above protein skimmer and have some questions.

the collection cup has foam bubbling out of the top and I believe this is what it is supposed to do....but should the cup also be half full of water? I turned it off as I didn't want to leave and come back to find that it had overflowed everywhere.

the clear cup has an o-ring around it to adjust the height that it sits in the skimmer, this is set about 1/2 inch from the top. Is this right? I wonder if I have it set up properly and the instrux book has no pictures and I can't find a pic of it working so I know what it is supposed to look like......

the pre-skimmer box has no attachment to but sort of floats attached to the pump inside the box by some screws....Does the height of this need to be constantly adjusted as water evaporates ?

    Thanks......

Raise the cup as high as it will go until the skimmer settles in. Once it breaks in you can adjust the cup down to collect skimmate that is at least the color of tea. Using the skimmer box you really need to keep the tank topped off. I think some sort of a true floating box would have been a much better idea but what do I know?

I concur.. if you don't have a sump then you will have to really watch evap in the main tank to keep the skimmer box working right.

Once the skimmer gunks up a bit, it shouldn't fill with water as much - I agree.. raise the cup first then adjust as it breaks in.

Welcom to 3reef! Thanks for joining.

You don't have to worry about the skimmer overflowing because the skimmate will just flow back into the skimmer and back into the tank. I have 2 of the remora's and they work well as long as you keep them clean. And like Jay said, they work better with larger pumps. I'm using a 650gph pump on my remora pro modified for my sump and a 420gph pump for the smaller remora.
