How much bubble "flow-over" is normal for the aquac remora? I'd empty it, and it will immediately produce bubbles that flow through the small hole in the lid. Just wondering.

BTW it is about 1 week old still.

    Thanks so much!

It sounds like it's still breaking in.

So does this mean it will stop bubbling over onto the top of the cup lid? It's causing somewhat of a residue (from the spash and popping of bubbles) on the wall is why I ask.

What if I cover up this hole? Will it cause it anger?

I have the Aqua C for 2 years and as your cup fills up the bubbles will always hit the lid but it should never escape the lid. Don't cover that hole also. At least contact Aqua C about it first.(proteinskimmer.com) 858-689-1121. You always want the cup as low as possible to get the most out of the skimmer. Don't listen to people telling you about wet and dry skim. If you raise your cup your skimmer it is not working as well as it should. The only time you should raise the lid is if you will be away from your tank for a number of days to prevent overflow.

I have an Urchin, which is the in-sump version of the Remora. The only time I get bubbles coming out of the little hole in the collection cup cap is when the cup is full. I have the o-ring set about half way up, to get less skimmer action. My bioload is small, and don't need to run it at full power. I'm not sure why it would do that. Try raising the collection cup to see if it makes a difference. I've tried the lowest setting and highest setting of the collection cup, either way you will still get good skimmate out of this skimmer. I'm going to set my cup to the lowest setting to see if I have the same problem..

Sounds to me like you have to much flow. This could be due to a couple things:

    1. Significant waste in your water (but you should be able to turn down your skimmer to avoid this).
    2. Skimmer depth in the sump causes to much flow (place the skimmer on some type of platform if you cant adjust the flow to account for this)
    3. Simply to much flow (should be able to adjust your skimmer).

If all else fails call the MFG as recommended above. Break in time should not cause the skimmer to function incorrectly.

Its a HOB skimmer, and if its still breaking in in will produce way more bubbles than normal, this can cause your problem. Give it some more time, it should calm down. Keep the cup at the highest setting until it breaks in, then you can lower it and find the sweet spot for skim.

Ok, so it's only been around 20hrs since I set the o-ring to it's lowest level, and I'm pretty disappointed with the result. The cup is full of watery skimmate. the skimmate has a very light green tint. I usually set is half way and it take a good week to fill the collection cup with thick green skimmate. I also noticed a minimal amount of bubbles reaching the top of the collectioncup cap.

I'm thinking like everyone else that you may have too much flow.

What pump are you using to feed the skimmer?

I am using the Maxijet 1200.

I have reset the collection cup point towards the middle, and have had great results today. (I had it at its lowest point, which was probably the root of the problem)...::)

    Thanks guys :)
