Just finished the sump and overflow and all the plumbing! Everything is working great! One question though, I'm using the aqualifter pump on the overflow and currently have it draining into the back part of the overflow into the tank. I have a feeling this is wrong and that it should be draining back into the tank? This way it seems that if I shut off the return pump the aqualifter would slowly pump water down the overflow drain and into the sump ultimately overflowing it?

you must have a CPR overflow. I had mine discharge into the drain to the sump. what wil happen when you turn off the pump is the tank will settle down to below the overflow. because the AL pump stays on, it will just drain some of the water down in the enclosed section till it sucks air. this is usually inside the tank. it will burp for a bit till you put water back in it. when I was having the return shut down for any extended period of time, i just unplugged the AL pump and restarted it when I did the sump.

what you do need to cinsider is that the water in the tank will fall to the level of the lip of hte overflow inside the tank. be sure your sump can account for that.
