I need to repair a leak in my sump and was wondering if wal-mart or any other store sells silicone that is safe to use in aquariums? I have always bought the aquarium safe stuff online but I am completely out and need some quickly.

G.E. Silicone will work just fine Just make sure it is the 100% silicone and don't get the Kitchen and bath as it has an anti-fungal additive in it............ John

How about the Wal-Mart brand Mainstays? Says clear all-purpose silicone sealant?

Does it say 100% pure silicone? No algicides or fungicides? If so, it should be OK. The GE stuff is only 3 or 4 bucks a tube.

Well, it says it is mildew resistant so I am thinking it is not a good idea. Can you please tell me what the GE tube says? I have 2 types of GE silicone, one is for doors and windows but it says do not use on aquariums and the other is the kitchen and bathroom and it also says do not use on aquariums and both say 100% silicone on the tube. These are the only two GE silcone that I can find.

Yup Birdlady, That is the one! ;)you will have no problem with it Wolffvet I think one of the reasons they say not for aquarium use is so they can sell one that says For aquarium use for 2 to 3 times the price. 100% silicone is 100% silicone no matter how you package it ;) :D......... John

PS I built a complete aquarium a few years back using that exact same silicone and I never had a problem with it ;)
