Yes, very. There is complete air circulation. Go find some at the store, you will understand. It is usually pretty cheap. I always keep extra around because it is so useful. It can also be used as a tank divider for bully fish.

 

there is a better way of doing this, i did it myself a couple days ago for my new tank build, buy screen framing w/ corners, spline, spline tool, bird netting or something similar, all of these can be purchased for around $20 at homedepot or lowes, you cut the framing to size of the tank, attach to the corner pieces which is basically idiot proof, then use the spline and spline tool to attach 2 or 3 layers of the bird netting depending on how small of openings you are looking for, easy way to do it, still looks good and will work good for a cheap price.

 

This is the plastic louver everyone talks about or egg crate. Not sure why people call it egg crate, that confused me too when i started. My parents have a small farm and she sells egg and uses "egg crates" for real eggs.

At lowes the tag says " louvers"

 

IMO, "egg crates" block way too much light, this is just as cheap, but without blocking light!

Yes Air and light will flow easily it has square holes which are about 1.5 cm. And regarding the light it won't affect the lighting as much but will obv affect some.

I doubt the color really matters

 

^ +1. The egg crate will also have large enough holes for a firefish or wrasse to jump through anyways. Building a screen is easy and better IMO
