I just recently added a really nice arrow crab to my tank. I love and it is getting a long quite fine with everything in the tank. After spending a lot of time admiring my new addition, I watched it do something weird last night. Well scavenging the rocks for food it stop, opened up its abdomen and started digging around in there. No idea why.

Has anyone else witnessed this? and if so, what is it doing?

    It may be carrying eggs.

I had a clear view inside. It had two cords that ran vertically and it didn't seem to have anything that resembled eggs. I was just surprised to see it even open up, but then again that's the great thing about this hobby.

Keep a sharp eye on the arrow crab. They are neat to watch, but will kill and eat whatever it wants. That includes fish.

I think I threw up in my mouth a bit. LOL.

I thought about setting up a tank for an arrow crab. They are cool creatures but are definitely not considered to be reef safe.

Caution...I had an arrow crab for about 2 days...the first day it was cool...after the first night I was missing an emerald crab....the beginning of the second night as my moonlight turned on...I saw how aggressive they can get. let me try to explain what I saw the best way I can...think of "war of the worlds" anything under him was his target! ok...this one may hit home a little better...picture all your little hermits crabs crawling for the closes rock fighting for holes to escape the giant...your snails climbing to the top of your tank to escape their fate.(remember these guys keep your tank clean SO CATER TO THEM) so after witnessing this...to make a long story short...the light was kept on all night and the next day he went right back to where he was...lesson learned R.I.P "emmy"...(EMERALD CRAB)

I'm not saying their bad....just be watchful.
