Why are people so concerned about these things? I just let them go and the population rises and falls all the time.

They also mow down on Coralline algae, which I'm trying to get to cover the back of my tank. Now every where they go I have little white trails of dead Coralline.

Some varieties will eat corals if allowed to get to an epic population.

That's cool that brittle stars have been sen picking them up and eating them. Outside of that, which may or may not be a normal activity, harlequin shrimp will eat them. But those have their issues too.

I have asterinas, but they are not doing anything bad, so I leave them.

Like urchins that eat coralline, when it is passed back out of the animal the spores spread into other areas of the tank.
