how high do these fish jump? what is was thinking of is a six inch peice of lexan or polycarbonate(the poly is cheeper) with a 45 degree bend at the top.the hard part will be attaching it to the tank so it dont look like hell.do you think these fish are jumping because of the economy.JK JOE

I've seen it written several times that eggcrate doesn't work to keep fish in the tank, and although I've never tried it; I have a hard time believeing that's true. In my mind, the eggcrate has got to be better than nothing. I guess that statement could hold possible, but only for fish that could fit through a single square hole, and the jump would have to be like a "swish" such as in the case of basketball.

So that being said, I guess I wouldn't do it because it would block the light transmission of our very expensive lighting.

Some fish are known to jump; like firefish, gobies, wrasses, and a few others. I've just resigned myself to never own jumpers. I've always liked my open-top tank, too.

i like bobs idea best , but in analyzing it. probably not the way to go. i think these things are supposed to swim and look cool. so thats out bob, sorry.

and sparky, he didnt swish, more of a splat. lol. but in regards to the lighting, i will trim open the lighting area. so it wont hinder or change the way that works. and while not totally jump proof, it will cut down the chnaces but quite a margin i think, or hope.

and thats another part of what card shark brought up, no offence meant, but i think the screen will look alot more asthetically pleasing.

What's the verdict on light reduction with that setup, mike?

I was thinking about something along these lines, only I think I'd paint the eggcrate black to make it "disappear" as much as possible.
