Been lurking on the forums for awhile now, so finally thought I would join up and introduce myself. In the past I have had freshwater systems that I feel I have mastered the work of and feel confident I could start a SW setup. Living about 20 minutes away from the liveaquaria distributor I feel I am in a very good position to start. This whole project will be not starting till next year sometime, but I thought I could get a headstart on planning. My Father and I are very much DIYers, so we would like to do everything as much as possible as a DIY. Thinking about doing a DIY aquarium, lighting, rock, and cabinetry. The tank size is still in question as far as dimension will be conserned until I can actually see where the tank is going in 3 weeks. As a beginner myself, I feel like I have learned a fair amount to comfortably take on the "challenge" and enjoyment of a SW tank. I plan on doing a reef system, and the tank needs to be seen from both sides as a passthrough where the sides will be hidden. Trying to decide on the best overflow that could go on the side of the tank, either internal or external. I will also be using a sump setup, but really its all just a vision in my head for now until next June :-[. If there are any suggestions as tank construction goes or any questions I am open to all.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I will definitely look forward to updating this in the future as I get things bought!

For those of you joining us that are new to the hobby - the best piece of advice you'll get around here as a saltwater newbie is 3Reef's slogan
    "Go slow, let it grow."
And for those experianced hobbyists joining us - it's still good advice :p
good luck and post pics soon :)

hello and welcome to 3reef, Audioholc. :) I would say to start off with the largest tank you can afford. It will be cheaper in the long-run, as we all end up wanting a bigger tank. The larger the tank is, also allows for a larger margin of error, if you have any problems. ;) Also means more fish/corals!

Do lots of research but also ask about questions you have on here. Make sure to do those before going to the LFS. While I have found a few stores to be alright, many will try to sell you things, rather than worrying about giving the best advice and what's best for your tank. Having a Liveaquaria distributor near by is cool.
