be careful with the "splice" Make sure to find a way to seal it water tight Maybe a plastic bag around it filled with silicone, then zip-tied off. Some water dripped down into mine, and somehow electricity was getting into my tank from it.

Two other things to keep in mine. You have to make sure the float has the correct current rating for the load you are putting on it or you will burn up the switch. Another is, if you keep the float in your display tank you need to put a protective container around it for protection of a snail latching onto it. Snail would cause the float to go down, then the float would think the tank needs water and will continue to need water until the snail is off. Easy way to remedy this is cut holes in a lid and bottom of a plastic container and put it inside threading it the lid of the container.

I'm getting ready to set up something similar, good luck! Mine will be in the tank though so it will be a little different with the same basic concept. Otty hooked me up with the idea.

This is very dangerous thing to do unless you are an electrician or have a lot of experience. I would stick with a controller or a professionally made Auto top off system like the level loc one.

What is so dangerous? If you are an electrician why don't you tell us the correct way to do it. It's simple enough that anyone could do it, with the proper electricians advice.

Well... I just set mine back up (after rewiring it) because I thought I didn't make the connections leak proof, I was getting a small jolt every time I touched the water. Well guess what, my actual float switch was what was leaking the electricity! How about that... I have a few spares laying around (different brand) I am going to re-wire it again tonight with a new float. I am agitated because I am leaving for a week tomorrow....
