Id personally have a look at the JBJ version. The kit above looks like it uses suction cups which I wouldn't personally trust. The JBJ is a little cheaper and uses a bracket and has snail guards for the floats.

Yeah after doing a little I-net research, that link I posted is a rip for 100 bucks.
I now see how you wire these things up. I think I will just buy a float switch off ebay. Make my own power supply with a 15am relay inline and run it.

BTW Im not concerned about the switch sticking and overflowing my sump.

    1. Im only going to house 15 gallons at a time. Yes if that all pumped into my sump Id be effed.

I put a 3/4 bulkhead in my sump for the "in case of emergency sump overflow"
and routed the pvc outside. So worst case scenario I loose my 15g off top off water and it ends up outside.

    yep, that is it.

fwiw, tunze osmolators are no more foolproof than a ATO set up as I described before. The optical sensor is a nice touch, but you can get that on the autotopoff.com one as an option. the optical sensor is like 50 dollars though.

Redundancy is the way to make about any ATO foolproof, provided you can set the second float to shut the pump off.
Even then, if the reservoir for top off water is large, I would run an ATO on a timer so it can't overfill eve if it tried.

You can opt to use the suction cups or not. There are other ways to mount them, but I have to say the cups have yet to move a mm for me in the whole time I have used it.

JBJ is nowhere as good as reef fanatic stuff, across the board.

That is like comparing a daewoo to a lexus.

JBJ is typically cheap quality stuff.

That said, there really is not a lot to an ATO.

I read the set up styles, and I don't think you can have it so the second float switch is a shut off in case the water level goes too high from the first switch malfunctioning.

If you cannot set this JBJ ato the way I am suggesting, like you can with the reef fanatic, then IMHO it is a waste of $$. For only 20 dollars more the reef fanatic does all that, and you can easily use plastic screws into acrylic or lexan to make a better mount for the reef fanatic float switches.
