anyone have any experience with these? I have one for about 6 months now, it was working excellent, I couldn't find a cheap urchin so I got the bak pak, now for some reason the collection cup keeps overflowing with water, I have cleaned everything and adjusted the collection cup, and still the same problem. wondering if its the power head?? I emailed cpr and would call but its a holiday. I am about ready to throw it through the window.

Dude, search the forums on the CPR. There are some issues with it if I am not mistaken. A few addons may be required.

Check out this thread that I started about the CPR bak pak skimmers:

Sorry to say that not a single person had anything good to say about them.:( I decided to skip it over, even though I could have gotten it new for $40. The list of extras you will need is in that link - about $75 bucks worth of extra stuff.
If your willing to wait, I have ordered a Octopus HOB skimmer, which are supposed to be awesome. I am going to write up a full review when it comes in.

well I found a problem with octopus skimmers, link below. I thought about and seen that this is the same problem I am having with the bak pak, the pump is pumping water in to fast and the skimmer doesn't have a chance to skim the water, so I wedged a piece of plastic steel wool in the inlet tube to reduce flow, now the skimmer isn't filling the tank with micro bubbles and the cup isn't overflowing with white foam and water. I will see if there is skimmate in the cup tomorrow. I will stay on the look out for an aquaC.

im guessing youve never heard of the "dirty water" theory, many aquarists use skimmers, those people would never start up a tank without one... on the other hand, i hear about the "dirty water" method more often now, many people say there corals have never been better...but more often than not these are the people who seldomely do water changes. do what works best for you, im sure it wont hurt
