    Hello,

Don't have any pics to show you, but i have done a couple of bare bottom reefs back in the 90s. Not sure of your reason/reasons for wanting this kind of reef but will say all of us that did it didn't keep them long(few months) before adding some kind of substrate. Yes it's easy to clean the bottom of tank but will always look unfinished and the right substrate will help keep PH somewhat stable and a home for microfana.

    Good luck:)

What if you glued xenia to the bare bottom or something like that...?! That'd be sick! (sorry to chime in with my $0.02)

I have a barebottom because my tank is only a foot deep and I have a lot of flow. I don't think I'd add substrate if I could. I love it being barebottom and most of it is covered in coraline already and its only been a couple months.

I'll add a pic tomorrow when my lights come back on.

I run BB on all my tanks!
And I will say that a sandbed is not a good way to start a tank out either. its like a phosphate sponge that just sucks up all the junk over the first few years and then releases it with a vengeance on your tank one day!!!

You can put white cuttingboard or starboard under your rocks for that white look, or else just let the glass become covered in coraline for a nice purple.
Sorry no pics of my setups right now, but if you want a serious sps reef go BB
