I picked up a used berlin skimmer rated for a 250 gallon tank. I can not determine the model. It is about 21 inches tall. I need some help setting it up. I have several pumps I can use for it rated from 500 to 700 gph. On all of the attachments for the pump the nozzle for an air hose is too large for the standard air hose size. The skimmer has an airline built into it but I can not figure out how to attach it to my pump. There is a plastic bolt on the input port for the pump. I am not sure what that is used for but looks like an airline might work there. The other question I have is that there are two air nozzle attachments (fittings) that sit directly over the two output tubes. Can someone tell me what and how these are used?

    Thanks

    Paul

I have the same skimmer as you I believe. The two nozzles on top of the output of the skimmer are just for air to prevent back flow from your tank, I was confused at first too lol. What kind of pump are you attempting to use? IMHO you won't be happy with the 500-700, even though thats what they reccomend. You can try the 700, can you put up pictures of the pump so I can see what your referring to with it not being able to fit. I shopped around and found a used magdrive 950 on craigslist and it made a huge difference right away. GOOD LUCK

Thanks - I would have never figured out what the two airholes on the top were for! I was just playing with it in the sink and was using a RIO 2100 that I picked up at a rummage sale.

Did you have a valve on the pump to control the flow or did you just use it at full force?

No valve on the pump, it connected to the pipe with no problem and I just leave the venturi to where it just reaches the neck inside with bubbles and let it flow. The only maintenance other than empyting the cup is you got to clean it every couple week or so and sometimes the venturi valve clogs with salt so jus run a 1/2 cup of hot fresh water through it when performance looks like its slowly, otherwise I think its a decent skimmer.
