ok, my tank has been steadily declining since my protein skimemr broke, then i found out that two of my fish have ich so i buy some herbal treatment for them. they both die before the treatment takes effect( sailfin tang and damsel) and the treatment did in my corals which werent doing good but now are completely dead. moswtly just blue xenia though. does anyone know how i could make my chances of success better? i dont know what im doing wrong. i dose calcium ich medication it is a 90 gallon tank and now the only inhabitants are a yellow tang two damsels and two clowns. i have t5 and pc lights on the tank and it has a skimmer in the sump and i do weekly water changes and all the specs are spot on

Calcium seems pretty high. What test kits are you using? Have you double checked results with another brand?

well they seem to be making progress, they were off the charts 900 ppm+ but i have stopped dosing and they have dropped to 700 in about a week so i wont dose again for a while. could this really be the problem? i test about 3-4 times a week with multiple tests each session.

unless you have a sps jam packed tank you shouldnt need to dose calcium..by you dosing all that calcium it is basically crashing your tank..

do alot of waterchanges and quit dosing and your tank can come back..i switched to coralife salt and it mixes up great numbers, higher numbers..

it sounds like your tank doesnt need to be dosed if its 700..waterchanges is only gonna help you

and i bet you alk is through the roof as well if your cal is that high

alkalinity is 125, i only have a few pieces or sps and some lps. i guess i just got into habit of dosing all my tanks because i have an sps dominated 16 gallon and 30 gallon tank that i dose regularly to.

yeah dude your dosing and not needing too..honestly id be doing small waterchanges twice a day maybe even more than that..some may disagree, but you gotta do something quick before more bad things come or your whole tank crashes..

im sure youve learned your lesson, but never dose your tank unless you need too..in a 90 gallon tank, you gotta have some huge colonies of sps or it be packed with clams to need to dose anything, regardless what salt your using..

but coralife mixs around 530ca, 9kh, and 1450 mag if you want a salt with higher numbers for the future...
