What is the difference and which does what? Also could you please give me some examples of different filters that do these different methods. I want to fully understand filters before I choose which kind to get. Thank you ;D

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Biological: Denitrifying and nitrifying bacteria convert waste to less toxic substances.

Chemical: An example is Activated Carbon, UV, Ozone... Some say skimmers are a form of chemical filtration. I have always considered it mechanical as with ATS but many consider them to be chemical.

    Mechanical: Sponge, floss, sock.

All of these can run mechanical, biological, and chemical.

To run biological, some use buowheels, ceramic media, or bioballs the allow places for your bacteria to grow
