Anyone have any clue what type of clam/muscle/scallop type thing this may be? It has been in the tank for a year or more and I just realized within the past month that it has been slightly opening during the day and closing at night.

Hopefully he shall chime in soon. I am eager to find out. Very interesting thing, funny it took me a year to realize it wasn't just a piece of rock. Thanks Corailline

    Hi Guys,

Yes, it's an oyster of some sort, but I can't really tell what kind. It lacks most of the clues for easily identifying them to the family level.

    Cheers,

    Don

Thank you, I appreciate the information. Do they usually continue to survive long term in a tank? I am surprised its been alive for the past year without me realizing.

My guess, in general, is no. They seem to reside in more nutrient rich waters than that of our tanks. But that may be a generalization .
