Currently running a new t5ho with moonlights (8blue leds) my question is i have some lighting fixtures i can fit on the top still that take standard tube bulbs is it possible to do a black light just to give corals that pop? i know the coral will not benifit from this in anyway just for looks but will it hurt anything or has anyone tried/done this?? I saw a you tube vid and it looked pretty sweet.. any input is great.. thanks

I think it would only work with all the other lights off...I think your other lights will completely wash out the black light otherwise.

I'm not to sure on the exact type of algae, but I had a very simular problem once on a 36 gallon I had when I had improper lighting for a fresh water tank. I had 18,000K bulbs which has a very blue tint to it. After two or three weeks it seamed like everything but the fish were covered in algae and the water had a green tint.

If you have had a blue LEDs one for a while each day, and they were bright enough, I'd guess that was the cause of your algae.

For me, I just replaced the bulbs, cut back on hte lighting for two weeks, did larger daily water changes for a week, and manually clean off as much algae as I could which fixed the problem

Just a guess tho based on the blue LEDs that have been used

What are you talking about? He's asking about using a black light. Nothing about algae. You must have your threads mixed up ;)
