Talk about building a tank. It's been built around the tank. Just amazing.

I've become more of a lurker on the forum since life is so busy, but thanks to facebook I saw this build thread, and I have one question...

What's your job? :D I can put up drywall all day long, but there ain't no way I could frame a room like that. I've never learned how.

Anywho, that's one awesome build. You get brownie points for the Sketchup too :)

You do know you've opened pandora's box though, yes? My meaning behind that being: you will never post enough pics to satisfy us, you will never post updates often enough to satisfy us, and even when you declare it "finished", we will not be satisfied. Having said that, GOOD LUCK! I look forward to watching this progress ;)

Thanks Matt! With the bricked exterior walls, I am a little concerned that this room may hold in the humidity, but I think at this point I have a good plan for moving air through the room. Now all we have to do is see how much evaporation I get as a result. I will hook up an ATO to the sump though to promote stability.

Ha ha! Yeah. I had a friend over that said to me, "How are you ever going to get that tank out of there? I told him, "If need be, with a hammer!" LOL

Well, believe it or not, I am a psychology/sociology professor. I've never been employed in any of the jobs I've been doing in this basement, but this isn't my first rodeo. :)

Thanks on the Sketchup points! I love the program, but if you've ever used it you know the amount of hours that went into that project! :/ I am a visual person and need to see things three-dimensionally before I get going. Looking at a 1" swatch of carpet or paint can't cut it for my pea-sized brain. :D

Thanks for following along. I'll try to post more pics of the job and keep up with the demand. :)

Nothing overly exciting, but before brick, the door to the fish room needed to be hung and encased. The local lumber yard did not have a 24" 2-panel door in stock and I needed a door today. So, I just bought the cheapest hollow-core oak door they had and ordered the two panel door. Once the new door is in, they will mill it so that the hinges and handle align with this jamb. Make sense?

Drywall installed; mud and tape to begin. I have scheduled the masons. As you can see in the picture, down the hall there is a small wall with an arched recess. The plan is to have the mason brick an arch over the tank to compliment that arch and others throughout the house.

I actually started framing this project in April, but had to take about two months off. I started back full force towards the end of June. Rather than post pics throughout the process, I thought I would post in bursts, which is great right now, but progress will be slowed once I'm done uploading images and get this thread closer to real time.

You're not kidding! There is a lot more to do. We just found out that we are expecting and I need to get this basement done in its entirety so that we have the two additional rooms. It's a hard sell to talk about money, time, and efforts being put into a fish tank when there is work to be done in other parts of the basement. :) The actual plans is for this job to be done and for us to have a xmas party in the basement, but I can only move as fast as the money comes in. :D

Thanks. There was and still is a lot of planning that goes on. If we're going to be living here for a while, we might as well get the place exactly how we would like it. Thanks for following along. :)
