I'm considering some various options for a future large tank. I'm no a huge corals fan though I do like the look of well matured and encrusted live rock, and lots of it. CFL's are now available in 6500K, and with blued glass I can shift them cooler than that. Has anyone done so? I realize it will require a bit more CFL sockets but has anyone done a DIY CFL rig like this?

The reason I'm avoiding other lighting solutions is the room the tank would be in would heat up very rapidly.

For a while I was augmenting my PC lighting with CFLs.

I was using 6500K bulbs and thought they looked really white until I got my T5s. Now the 6500K CFL lighting my fuge looks yellow to me.

If you're looking for a lot of coraline growth you'll want to stay with dimmer lighting. Looking back at this picture from 11/2/2008 I can't believe how much coraline I've lost on the back glass since I changed to T5s from PCs. But corals will do much better under the T5s. That colt coral on the right side is about 2 inches away from that Koralia PH.

It depends on how big this tank ends up getting... I'm dreaming again (as usual).

The room isn't particularly big, and the heat budget would be more important than cost. I'm concerned more about the room heating up and having to solve that issue.
