Have you done a "blackout" with your lighting yet?

No, but my MH are cut waaay back, around 3-4 hours instead of 8. I was thinking of doing this, any suggestions from anyone? Do I cut my actinics also? Maybe 3 days no light at all to help kill it off, then hope the rowaphos helps to keep it from coming back? I would also suction as much as I could off the rocks daily.

Hey, you might be right, I don't know. I just felt it wasn't the issue but I'm like you my wife tells me I'm wrong frequently also:p!! Like I said before I'm concentrating on what to do from here as I am pulling out all the stops before I take the 12 guage to it:uzi:!!

I would definitely go for a complete lighting shutdown. I have done it before in an established tank w/corals for a week. Think of it as a really dark cloudy storm that lasts for a week in the wild. Your cuc and turbo snails will be working 'round the clock. It's definitely another weapon of attack.

Most the turbos are gone because my tank is running at 80-82 degrees to help get rid of the oonidium and they are a cool water snail so they didn't like me too much:(. Everything has been a big snowball that I'm trying to put a torch on. I still have plenty of other snails though. So you think a week would do the trick? I guess I could play it day by day and see how it goes.

That is why I love this forum, you think you have thought of everything till someone reminds you of the obvious! Thanks for the input everyone...

It looks like the water is lacking in the ca and Dkh levels and or maybe its the lights ? where are the PO44 and NO3 setting at ? You guys have got to stop feeding these coral really if you have enough current then they will get fed just fine.. Skimmer maybe not removing proper amounts of DOC's and or is way under sized ? Add some good carbon and check out the skimmer and and lamps and the parameters of the water. 82 should not be killing off snails may need more oxygen ? CO2 levels of the house and water maybe to high ? Thats why planted tanks get CO2 added daily to feed the grasses ..

Too true. I feel like I've been pretty resillient considering the circumstances! I am in the middle of emailing Roger, he suggested turning the main lights off so I asked him about the actinics also. I am turning all timers off tonight. I will still get some natural light because the tank is in the living room but this time of year none of it directly hits the tank so it will remain pretty dark. Let's see where this goes... in the meantime, if anyone else has any ideas feel free to chime in!

I just replyed to your email a sec. ago with specs. My ca is 450 dkh is 8 but I don't trust my test kit so I was going to see if my best bud in the world (that's you Scott!) would come over and double check it with his test kit to make sure. Nitrates are at 5 or less. I thought target feeding the corals was good? I used frozen brine and would supplement it instead of flakes, not with flakes. I have only done this maybe 10-15 times in the last 8 months so it isn't even a regular thing. The skimmer is a AquaC remora, rated for 75 gal. so it's not huge but should be adequate? I've been running carbon nonstop from different batches. I did have an airstone running for months but took it out about a month ago and haven't put it back in yet, I will get on that tomorrow.

Well today was the first day of the blackout. It sucked a lot more then I thought it would, not being able to see the corals in all their glory! I'm worried that I will do this and it will just return once I turn the lights back on... oh well, worth a shot I guess:-/:-/
