So I got a branching hammer coral a month or two ago (can't quite remember) along with a number of other corals. They're all thriving and doing great, except the hammer. It has two heads and one is receding back and I can see skeleton. The other head isn't that far yet but it never quite seems to fully expand. I've tried placing it in a few different spots in the tank to change lighting and flow but it doesn't seem to thrive anywhere. My tank is a 12 gallon nano cube with PC lighting, stock return pump, and a Koralia 240. The finger leather is great, the lobo brain is great, the blasto is great, the torch is super great, and my two trumpets are in the middle of splitting.

Is there anything I can do to bring this hammer back or will it just die? If one head goes does the other still stand a chance? Any tricks to bring these back to life?

Could you take a pic? Is the Hammer near the Torch?

It's been within 4-5 inches of the torch, but the head that's dying was the furthest from the torch.

Have you tried dipping it? You can use airline tubing to siphon off the dying/necrotic tissue and then you may want to give it a dip in an Iodine solution like Pro Coral cure to help prevent the recession. Are there any other corals very close to it? Maybe it is being stung by sweeper tentacles?

Might it have too much flow? If the polyps get torn on their skeleton, is a sure way to kill the polyp.

Too much flow if you have the powerhead right on it. Or your PCs just arent getting the job done. Try doing some target feeding might give it what it needs to come back to life. If not sorry for your loss
