I'm building my Seahorse tank starting soon and I want all the rock to be branching so it will be filtration and will make a lot of hitching posts. However, i've only seen this as live rock and I can only really afford mostly base rock that I was planning on seeding with live rock from my reef taking proper precautions to keep cnidarians out. Has anyone ever seen branching rock in base rock form? If so where?

I have never seen it in base rock, and to be totally honest with you unless you get some really thin pieces Tonga Branch is kind of thick for hitching posts. I have some in my Seahorse tank but I also have provided other post for them that they actually prefer.

I am using several Saltwater SeaGarden Plants-Sargassum fluitans not only do the seahorses prefer to hitch to these they add some color to the tank.

I have also seen others use plastic chain which I have seen at Lowe's and Home depot, it floats so you need to anchor it at the bottom of the tank but it affords them lots of room to hitch.

But sometimes all that is needed it a thermometer, I a have one horse that will not hitch to anything else when the glass thermometer is hanging on the front glass of the tank!

Been making alot lately. I haven't tried to make really branching pieces yet though. It is much harder to create a solid, yet natural looking piece with branching qualities.

It will take many months to cure DIY LR. 4-6 probably. The one real drawback.

The branching rock is not going to be the only hitching post in the tank. It is going to be an added bonus. There will also be a full range of other hitching posts offered.

Sometimes petsmart has some cool looking fake liverock, although I've never bought it and probably never will, I know people have and it works out in the end...

I am just going to go with regular rock and offer other hitching posts. I'm going with a smaller tank, a 20, so I'm using some rock from the reef.
