last night at our LFS my boyfriend and i made the impulsive decision of buying a black brittle starfish, now i'm affraid that it's going to eat my fish as i've been reading some pretty freaky stories on the internet about brittle stars. now of course we all know to stay away from the infamous GREEN brittles but what about the blacks? should i be concerned or am i being an over protective fish mommy lol! i would just hate to have something happen to any of our current fish as we've worked really hard to get them all to where they are!!!

im pretty sure most of the black ones are bottom dwellers only and eat the bottom detrius. do you have a pic? The green one is nasty though.

Only the green serpent stars are any risk to anything living AFAIK.

Here's pictures of them all and some descriptions.

Just steer clear of the green ones, and you will be fine. The red ones are really nice as well.

    Hi,

There is one exact question like this before ...
    anyway ...

`Creatures that snack on brittle stars include fish, crabs, hermit crabs, mantis shrimp and even sea stars and other brittle stars.`

    from http://www.wildsingapore.com/chekjawa/te...

    hope that helps,
    Eugene
