From what i've read there fine. Just try to avoid the green ones as they can get to a size where small sleeping fish are "scavenged". My orange brittle has been just fine in my tank for months.

ive got 4. theyve been fine. basically hide under rock work and eat detrius and such. theres a green brittle i believe thats not safe. can ambush fish at night. but for the most part are good and an important ingredient. thats my opinion.

I have a brittle star and he stays under a rock during the day and at night he is all over the place.......I also have many zoes, polyps, and also a torch coral and he never messes with any of them....My peppermint shrimp on the other hand runs right up to my coral and picks at it....

I have 2 banded serpent stars. They may catch a snail here and there but I think they're for the most part reef safe. Watch out for greens though. They get nasty.

I have some rather cool ones that hicked in on a mushroom rock, one is about dime size and is white the other two are about quarter size and are white with brown stripes. I have heard that if they are not spot feed they dont last long....I am not really a big fan of star's though....

I have a big brittle star, a black and white serpent star, and a red serpent star. They all live in their corners of the tank. As soon as the lights go out, the brittle star will start to "appear" - literally arms hanging out everywhere. I think they're a great addition to a reef tank. I've also heard to stay away from green brittle stars. Mine is actually called a "red" brittle star, but it's black to me!
