the other day i moved my powerhead to behind my rocks because i thought i had a dead zone. then i went on vacation for a couple days. when i came back there was brown algae everywhere. the only thing that changed about my tank was the powerhead. is this the cause or is there something else happening?

Can you describe the algae please? It is probably just diatoms. How old is your tank?

The new powerhead makes diatoms even more likely.

    I totally missed that.

It may still be the case, if he moved it lower in the tank, so more cord that hasn't been in the water at some point gets in.
