So my tank is either just finishing up cycling (params are perfect and at 0 all around and 8.2) or is done cycling. The whole bottom of the tank is brown, My substrate is CC and isn't white anymore. I also have it all over the insides of my tank. I took a picture with my phone, and it is way darker than it looks. Anything I can do about it? what is it?? I was going to get some livestock today... but I don't know if I should now. ETA: it gets worse every day, and it seems as every time I look at it, it has spread!!!

looks like a brown diatom bloom to me. Comes and goes on any new tank. They thrive on silicates from the new equipment. Only thing you can really do is keep up water changes, keep cleaning the class if you wish to see your fish, and you can try adding a phosphate remover to your filter. But it will go away on it's own in a few weeks. Do you have a cleaning crew of hermit crabs and snails? Are you using ro/di water?

Correct me if I'm wrong fellow-members, but that's a normal new tank diatom bloom. It's OK and should disappear soon. IMO, I wouldn't let that stop you from stocking, but wait 'til some1 else piggy-backs on this thread. Good luck and enjoy!

Yes I have 2 Narcissus, and 2 Bumblebee Hermits. I used about 20 gallons of RO/DI, and 25 of bottled spring water (my LFS went out of business before I could get the rest of the 25, which is why I used Bottled).

My CC and LR is from an established tank

Scrape it off the glass and it is OK to brush the surface of your sand to rid your brown algae bloom

sure you can go ahead and scrape. but i would be adding alot more in the likes of cuc. my suggestion would be another 30-40 snails\hermits\brittle stars and such. youre undermanned in the janitorial regards. :)
