Also i have a small male O. clown that all it does is swim at the top? He slows down around the anemones but then goes straight to the top? any ideas on how to get him to host?

it is all up to the fish to decide when. mine took 6 months some never do, be patient. in regards to the bubble tip I doubt anyone will be able to give you a factual answer as to why, no one really knows why they "bubble" up or not.

    Welcome to 3reef.

I have probably heard every legit theory regarding why one anemone has the tips and another does not, none of them ever pan out. I have had BTA side by side one with bubble tips one with out under the same exact conditions. With that said it's always good to check parameters and make sure lighting is adequate. Some say supplemental feedings help, again that never proved to make a difference in my case.

To encourage the clown to host you can try.

    1. Introduction of a smaller juvenile clown.
    2. Tape an image of an anemone hosting clowns to the side of the tank, yes sounds funny but proven effective.
    3. They have those clown fish feeding clips for sea weed, they look just like a clown, you can try placing one of those very close to the anemone.

Lastly some clowns will not reside in anemones for whatever reason.

    Good Luck.

I couldn't get my clowns to want to be hosted for almost a year... one of them ended up jumping (preventive measures now in place) so I replaced it with a clown that already was hosted and loving it in the store. Over the course of a couple weeks, it has taught the other clown to love the anemones... all 5 of them in the tank. Some of mine bubble, some don't. Some times the same anemone will be bubbled on one side and not on the other. My advice would be to try to get an anemone friendly clown if you have a choice.
