Irecently got myself a predrilled 120gallon tank and am just about to get to putting it asll together (bulheads, overflow kits, skimmer, pump , pvc etc) and wantted some general advice on how I should go about creating my refugium down below.

So what I've got is a Megaflow Model 4 sump with the bio balls. I'm taking them out and predrilling a return pump hook up on the far end. The unit looks like this one in the pic http://www.wetwebmedia.com/SystemPI...ntake (you can see pump on right as well.jpeg
Upon the recomendations of a couple store owners I've gone with a EuroReef RS-80 protien skimmer that I will place in the sump.

Now, my question is what should I actually be placing in my refugium? Some people say live rock, others alge that grows crazy, someone even said a type of grass that I will have to cut back from time to time. I heard a normal florecent lamp should do just fine for lighting as well..

What do you guys suggest for the built of this guy? DO I o a little of everyting?

So you are planning on a combination Sump Refugium?

You will first need to baffle the refugium from the sump area. So that the skimmer input, heaters and anything else you put in the sump area does not interfere with the stuff in the fug.

Many people use different algae and sea grasses. Most require lighting to be successful and there for can be lite 24/7 or on a revers lighting schedule as the display tank.

I'm planning on putting some live rock and macroalgea in a sump/refugium setup. You can also put chemical filtration in the sump section like activated carbon and other water treatment stuff. And a deep sand bed(DSB). The DSB will hold bacteria to breakdown nitrates and nitrites.

The sky is the limit as far as what you plan on keeping in your refugium! I have live sand and rock, mud as well as macro! then I have snails, a baby cleaner and peppermint shrimp(nursery) as well as the pod, bacteria, and polychaete worm population!!!!
