I am looking to drill my 125 gallon tank. I need to know where the best place would be to drill and how big the holes should be? What flow should I aim for? Also I dont really know anything about bulkheads and what size I should get for the holesaw. Thanks

What are you drilling it for?

I am drilling it to put in overflows. Also I am probably going to have a mostly FOWLR tank but may have a few corals mixed in. I am not sure what size hole or holes to make for the sump to achieve a good flow. I am not even sure on how much flow I should have and most the research I have done is conflicting at best.

I looked at glass holes.com but they are rather expensive. I am looking to do most everything myself. I can buy the overflow box itself which will cover the bulkheads in the tank for about 10 bucks. Much less than a typical overflow box.

If you can get the overflow box for $10 then that's a steal. I got my overflow box from gl*******s.com. They are priced well IMO. Great products and the overflows come in a kit with the OF box, bulkhead, glass drill bit and they even give you a sweet surprise. LOL

If you just want to get the bulkheads and glass drill bits try bulkreefsupply.com. They should have everything you need :)

The size will depend on the water volume running through you overflow, drain and return lines. For 125 gal I would shoot for around 1200 GPH. With that said, you need an overflow box that will handle 1200 GPH or even 1400 GPH. The oveflow box you get will most likely suggest the size of piping that should be used. Probably 1 1/2" or 2" for your drain and 1'-1 1/2" for your return. The bulkhead size is also determined by your OF box but will most likely be 1 1/2"-2" bulkhead. When you get a glass drill bit, usually it will tell you what size bulkhead it is for. You will need a pump around the same GPH. Hope this help. Good luck

Has anybody bought anything from txholey rocks.com? They have a complete 1200 gph overflow kit for 30 bucks. I think this is the kit I am going to buy. Any good or negative reviews on them? Cant beat the price!

If you are trying to drill this on your own plan on buying a diamond coated drill bit which are minimum 50 bucks depending on size. I would not attempt drilling it yourself unless you are going to get a diamond bit. There are also multiple videos on youtube for drilling aquariums and I would recommend checking some of them out before doing it since they are helpful. It is cheaper to drill yourself vs. paying a retail place to drill it. (if you feel comfortable drilling)

This kit comes with the hole saw. At 30 bucks for the overflow box, holesaw, and bulkheads I think this is a steal. Yes I have been reviewing a lot of vids on drilling your own tank. I dont think it will be too bad at all. Any thoughts? Also what should I look at for return? Thanks
