when i bought my tank, i just went with a metal stand. i wanted to make my own cabinet. it will be more like a shell. i made this replica antique drysink, that i liked so much , thought i do something similar for the shell.

Yeah....I am with Jason. You have a gift. Go for it. Just make sure it is level, level, level and there are enough supports to handle the weight.

actually it wont be supporting any weight. its just gonna be a shell around the metal stand the tank is on now. guess you could call it some lipstick and mascara. lol. and no i dont wear that myself. lol, i distress all the wood, basically beat it up to get the antiqued look. i also use square nails like they did long ago. what problems did you have packleader that got you frustrated?

Just trying to overthink it basically ;) Was having some trouble joining the miter cut 2X6's for the bottom/top frame part and keeping them square (couldn't find any corner clamps for that sized lumber locally). I had to kind of re-think what I was actually doing, and have a pretty good system now. Butchered some lumber in the process ;) But I may go back to it this week in the evenings. Might.

are the 2x6's gonna be seen? if not, you can always do like a butt overlap, then dress it up with some nicer wood for a facing. or if they are, would attaching the front to the up supports first , then adding the side miters to the front mitered piece work? gives more stability to getting a nice tight mitered joint.
