    My alkalinity test indicated 1.7 - 2.8 is good, I suspect this isn't the case in my example.

    OK, so what's the best way to raise both of those?

    You will need to buy a magnesium supplement and an alkalinity supplement and then dose per instructions.

    That range is OK for fish only. Reef you will want to be more where I gave it. If you are only doing fish then you are good and really don't need to worry about the mag level.

    I never mind a reason to go back to the lfs.

    will those increased levels cause any harm to the fish or inverts in the tank?


    Not quite sure how I pulled off a double post ;D

    I seem to have the same problem getting too high a calcium. checked with two different test kits and always above 500. Currently at 560
    My parameters are SG 1.026
    PH 8.2
    Ammonia 0 ppm
    Nitrite 0 ppm
    Nitrate 0 ppm
    Alkalinity 4.43 mequ/l 12.42 dKh 222 ppm
    Magnesium ?(test kit on order)
    Calcium 560 ppm

    Any help what I can do to lower it besides wait?
