Can't find a calculator for raising SG... it's probably right in front of my face

wondering how much top off water at 1.027 it will take to raise ~55 gallons from 1.025 -> 1.027?

want to have an idea before I start... nothing replaces good ol' add a little and test, repeat...

to bring mine up to 1.026 from 1.022 I made a small batch of 1.029 and added about .5 gallon every day along with top off water until my tank was at 1.026.. it only took about a week.. hope this helps..

    Hi Peredhil
    simple maths work for me

you have 1.025 - your target is 1.027

remove 10% of your water that will leave you with 9 parts @ 1.025 or 9 x 1.025

and increase the SG on the 10% you removed to 1.035 and put it back

    then you have 9 x 1.025 + 1 x 1.035 = 10.26 divide by 10 = 1.026

    repeat again tomorrow
when by removing 10% at 1.026 and replacing with 10% 1.035 - you will end up with 1.0269

    because 9 x 1.026 = 9.234 + 1.035 = 10.269 - divide by 10 = 1.0269

or you can just keep topping up with salt water to replace evaporation and get there eventually anyway.

that's a great answer! seems obvious now that I read it.

but I'm really asking more for this part... is there a way to calculate how much 1.027 top off water it would take before 55 gallons (more or less) at 1.025 would raise to 1.027?

I'm going to start doing this tonight... but wanted to see if I could calculate and then confirm (or not) it.

I guess what I would like to know the most is if I should start this process using a measuring cup or gallon?

:-/ hrm well... i guess nobody has done this or something...

anyway... i put in 1 QT (4 cups) of 1.026 saltwater and that raised it less than a point in my DT... I just added another QT. I'm thinking maybe two more times and I'll be where I want to be.

why do you want it to be .027? i run mine at 1.024, this way if i lose water to evap its not really harming anything, dont know why would would want to raise it i think what you have it at now is perfect

just doc'ing my experience here in case I ever need to do this again.

So far I have added 2 QT of 1.026 saltwater as top off water and that has raised my DT to a hair under 1.026. So I have added an additional 1.5 QT today and will measure again Thursday night/Friday. I am expecting I will be at or near enough 1.027 at that point.

If I am, I will try to reward myself with a new coral this weekend. We shall see.
