Until recently my 75 gal reef tank has managed to keep calcium above 380. However, recently a friend gave me CalMax part A and B for calcium and alkalinity. After the first use, calcium actually dropped from 360 to 340. I added another dose but it only raised it to 360. Also, the specific gravity climbed to 1.028 from 1.026. (I have since started lowering it). So, I am thinking of buying a part A and B by SeaChem. Has anyone had any problems with SeaChem raising salinity?
    Thanks,
    Jim

I just did a search as to weather Calc can raise salinity and came up with no evidence for that premise. My thought now is it is your measuring device. Also, as far as the lack of results when adding the 2 part supplement and not getting the desired results, in my tank, due to its' nature, I was doubling and tripling the amount of the Calc part. In frustration I started to think about a drip or reactor approach. When at my LFS, it was suggested to try the Sea-Lab #28 blocks, viola', calc is now at 500 ppm and stays there.

I would imagine that it would be able to raise the salinity in small amounts.
going from 1.026 to 1.028 seems like quite the jump for an additive though.

I know magnesium will raise salinity- so I would imagine that most forms of calcium would be able to as well. Would be the same with some of the higher quality salt mixes, higher calcium/mag/alk you go for- generally the higher salinity.

    Just a thought.
