Had calurpa and chaeto in seperate compartments in my fuge to see which would do better. Seems the chaeto has won the war. My calurpa is turning ghostly white and desinagrating. Chaeto is still growing like a weed. I took all calurpa out and now have chaeto in both compartments. Any reason people can think of the calurpa would die off like this?

From my understanding calupera needs 24/7 lighting in order to no die off or go sexual...I opted for chaeto and mangroves instead...

was it in the second section. If so it probably starved. Chaeto is a nutrient sponge and it may have removed the nutrients before the got to the calurpa.

It had 24/7 lighting. I guess maybe it was a chaeto starving. By the sounds of it Im glad I ended up with the chaeto then.

also i cheato is more efficient i've read, because there is more surface area. ie, lots of long stringy pieces instead of on thicker stem etc. makes photosynthesizing easier.

    calurpa and chaeto

Kinda not a fair fight actually. Calurpa wants slow moving water and the opposit for Cheato which can be tossed around like there is no tomorrow -- which ever got the water feed first would starve the other (that's why you want to skim after your fuge).

I prefer Calurpa since I can pull it and add it to a clip for my tangs to munch on :)
