I put eggcrate on the top on my tank to keep fish from jumping out which is probably overkill as my fish really never jump out the top. My lighting is 8 T5 bulbs deep with two retrofits, one 4' and one 2' long. My 210 gal tank is 72" x 24" on top and my retrofits are 12+" deep. The two fixtures are 8x54W and 8x24W and should be fine and they are for most of my corals but it seems like I've had some hard corals that are weak. Anybody have any ideas for me? My bulb combination from front to rear is:
    ATI blue+
    Guiessmann midday 6000K
    UVL 75/25 14K
    ATI blue+
    UVL Aquasun 10K
    ATI blue+
    ATI Aquablue 12K
    ATIblue+
The bulbs were replaced about a month ago. I purchased them from reefgeek.

I went to HomeDepot and grabbed 23 guage wire mesh. Corrosion and rust resistant and right down the road.

here's a really old shot, but I made a wall out of egg crate. Works really well and keeps the lights from making the room so bright. That's just duct tape over the wall to block the little holes. It's worked real well for me.

P your mind works in beautiful ways! As to the question at hand, if you block 5-10 percent of the surface area, that is 5-10 percent less PAR. Im not saying eggcrate blocks 10% but it does block a little light

This is amazing, truly amazing but my corals opened up more today without the eggcrate. I believe the eggcrate did make a difference after all. I'm thinking more in terms of putting a screen on the back of my canopy to keep fish from jumping out. I'm also thinking of adding more lighting to the mix. Right now I have 632 watts for a 210 thats only 3:1 which is borderline. Thanks to all and I'll check back tomorrow.

For T5HO that is right there for output as long as you are using top of the line bulbs.
