Well, my wife and I just got done watching the special on a little place called Gander in Canada. She was watching the Olympics and called to me and said I might like to see this. WOW, what a beautiful story. It was all about Sept. 11 and when the terrorists hit New York. I had no idea of the scope of what was involved in getting every plane out of the sky and get them landed safely. The mini documentary showed the absolute overwhelming kindness and warmth of the little town in Newfoundland. It was amazing. About 38 planes were instructed to land there, a town of 10,000. With almost 200 on each plane the town was swarmed by almost 8,000 people! There were only 500 hotel rooms available. The people opened their homes to perfect strangers along with every church, civic center and the like. Store owners kept their shops opened and gave clothes and whatever people needed, free. I hope many of you got to see it. Yes, we have a friendly rivalry between our two great countries, but for 3 days in September, there were no borders, no nationalities......just people helping people...........

 

i wish there wouldnt be borders, its just one more thing humans can fight over. i watched some of it. very nice story.

I heard about this years ago right after the plane crashes. It's truly a heartwarming story. There's more info here including the college trust fund set up for those cities.
