Well, yesterday I bought a very cool looking Canary Blennie. Didn't really ask any questions about him because I thought Blennies were pretty similar in their habits, personalities. I have since seen articles that say although they are very safe in reef tanks, they can be semi-aggressive and have VENOMOUS FANGS.

Has anyone had any experience with these fish - good or bad. I'm wondering if I should be worried.

    THANKS!

Venomous? Yes. I believe that the venomous teeth are located to the rear of the mouth slightly lessening risk. Not sure about safety/toxicity though.

I believe that I read somewhere that if the fish dies it does not kill off the tank, but If a fish eats it, it can kill that fish....
Not sure where I heard that but i think that the canarie blenny has the same venom and toxic characteristics as my gumdrop goby-from what Ive heard has these same characteristscs.

Not sure, you sohuld look into it though

Well, I did a little more internet reading and basically it was said that they can give a painful bite if feeling threatened, but it won't kill you or make you sick ). I also read if they get too pestered by other fish that they will try to bite them in the mouth which I would think would be very painful as well! As of the past couple of days he just does his own thing and ignores my dwarf angel that does bug him somewhat. So I will just pay attention when I need to stick my hands in the water!

Well I bet he will run as fast as any fish in there will ! And I'd also bet you would have a better chance of a block of frozen human waste falling from a 747 and smashing your tank sooner then this fish would bite you or anything bad happening from that fish.

I have had them as I mentioned for many yrs and they simply hide in a hole until it feeding time.. I would not loose to much sleep over it :)

They only use their venemous fangs as a self defense. I had one, but it only lasted a week and a half. Mine never jumped, just couldnt get it to eat. Cool fish thou. Luna
