I have alway's used a canister, and have been told many times to run a good fuge instead. I picked this up at an auction today for 10.00 and was wondering would this be better than a canister? And if it is how do I use this gadget? And why would it be better than a Canister? If any one has one like this could you please post some pictures and explain how each section work's? Hope this isnt asking to much but it is a neat little item and will be going under either my 55 or my 75. Was it worth 10.00? The tanks are not drilled.

Forgive me for a sloppy stand I got a steal on some very nice Mahogany and am trying to rebuild the stand without doing a total tear down.

Looks well worth 10 bucks for me. It has a built in skimmer to? and a pump was included!! Whats the brand name of that thing....the skimmer, pump, or the sump? Looks like it has some nice media trays too. As long as it holds water, I think you got $10 worth.

It has a built in skimmer brand name unknown it does have media trays and the pump for the skimmer is rated at 1000 LPH the return pump is a Mag 18 ! ! ! ! A bit more pump than is required. The Skimmer looks kinda cheesy so I might just take the top off. it is built into the lid. I guess I could use the acrylic tube for something or just put it in the closet with all the other extras I have collected. Maybe use the pump from it to pump out instead of an overflow. Since I have never used or saw one I would like a bit of info on what goes where as far as the macro's and whats the best filter to use in the tray and just a general rundown from someone that has used or is using one. I would love to see some pics of one in action if possible. Hopefully some one will step in with more info or even better pictures.

Well the first chamber i see where the skimmer is...thats gets filled up with water coming from your tank...once that gets filled in runs off into the trickle tray...u can usually put a polyfilter thier to grab some garbage. After it trickles down u can either put Live rock/bio balls on that Egg crate. After it it runs off the LR/BB it passes the sponge which picks up more doodoo, and into the last chamber. Now in that chamber u can either put a pump...or have it drilled so u can put a bulkhead so u can add goodies in thier...for example carbon bags. To have this work u are going to jave to get a Hang on overflow box or have your tank drilled and piped to your sump. This a typical Wet/dry System.

Oh and to finish your question...it all depends on what your planning to do with your tanks.
Wet/dry filters from my knowledge are really good for a FOWLR tank. But if u want to keep corals etc...u mite want to invest in a refugium and stock that up with cheato/culupra for extra removal of excess nutrients.

Looks like its acually a wet dry filter not a fuge. It could be turned into a fuge if you can overcome a few problems. From the second chamber to the third you need to seal the bottom where the water runs under so no macro or substrate pass through and get to the return pump. You would also need to mod the top of the wall between second and third chambers so that water can overflow into the third chamber. Maybe just drill some holes.

Im upping the bid. Ill give you 30 for it even if it doesnt hold water.
