cant keep parameters up!!

    i've had this 55 gal. tank for years and its been running all this time....for years no problem keeping parameters up....then a few years ago we had a bad ice storm lost power for days lost everything but live rock....now for some reason I cant keep enough chemicals in the system...I can have a calcium reading of 400 one day and the next it maybe 320 same with the magnesium and the KH and I really dont have anything in there to suck that much stuff down I dont think....1 hammer,1 brain that lays out flat,1 cabbage colt coral I think thats what it is.....any help very much appreciated....and i'm running a phos.reactor with phosban in it

    Check the expiration date on your test kits. That drastic of a drop in calc from one day to the next shouldn't be happening, especially with only a few corals in there.

    Here is a link to an article that really helped me understand the whole balance of water chemistry and how one played a role on another.....a friend directed me to it.

    Though I would check your test kits first before dumping any more chemicals in there. Run a test with your kit and then take it to your LFS and compare

    thanks for your fast reply the dates on my sera ca and kh test kits are 11th month 2011 and 2012 and the mag@alk test kit is brand new from seachem

    Is your ph and alkalinity stable they can effect all of the others.

    just checked alk. total alk. was i'm exactly sure how you read this it went from 1.0 in the shringe down to 0.7 then the borate alk. went from 1.0 to 0.9 checked calcium with sera test it is 220 right now

    I have a 1 liter bottle of seachems Reef complete would it hurt to give a good dose and maybe bring things up a little by dosing it??
