The tank is a stress reliever somewhat. I am a combination of exhausted and can't sleep so I stare at the tank.

Actually, they originally could not dock in any way. Mainly because the US crew was breathing low pressure 100% O2, while the Soyuz crew was breathing normal air pressurized to sea level. So connecting the two and opening the door would have caused severe decompression and expansion for both crews, which would have been quite a mess. So, what they did was send up an air lock like a DIY adapter for the craft to dock, and then 2 of the 3 US guys had to sit in there for a few hours to acclimate. The handshake and time spent in orbit that followed was very very good for everyone though. Kind of clearing the tension from the air following the Cold War days.

Sorry, I watch the Science Channel too much and there was a show about this very subject the other day :) There was nothing political in the show, but I'm also taking a "U.S. History after 1865" class at school so I'm kind of connecting the two :)

I still think that the U.S.'s attempts to get to the moon would have been much weaker and half-hearted if we weren't getting our butts whooped by the USSR in the space race (Sputnik, whatever that space station was, yeah we were losing). So there's such a thing as friendly competition, and then political flexing-muscles competition. I'm just fuzzy on which the space race was.

I like talking about this stuff, this is fun :D haha

I feel for ya man. I have friends that work for orbital sciences, space-x and ULA. Vandenberg AFB is sweating bullets as a collective.

    Hang in there.
