I had to take that Windows Defender off my niece and nephew's computer. Smoked the boys hard drive but I got it off my nieces. Had to go in DOS to get it off. Overclocked his CPU. :( I only use Trend Micro Security Software and has never let me down for over 10 years.

I got rid of Windows Defender using my malaware, but every now and then its icon shows up on my screen. Only sometimes. But it doesn't do pop ups anymore or freeze my computer.

    Really weird.

I got this same virus recently on my work pc. They do some crazy realtime scanning and do not deploy an actual anti virus app on their laptops. I was checking some site and accidentally clicked a banner. BAM, same thing happened, "virus found", "removing now"....blah blah. I actually thought it was legit for a couple of seconds but then I noticed that any site I would try to go to would re-direct me to the anti virus purchasing page. It also put a hidden proxy entry on my computer to point to some random public IP over port 555. not sure what that was about.

I downloaded malware bytes and the newest malware bytes definitions on a separate pc along with avast free edition with the extra virus definitions. Also installed combofix.exe. The combination of all 3 were able to remove the virus but my proxy was still messed up. I had to go in and manually re-direct my proxy to point to the correct proxy server. Then I finally was able to go back online. Then I installed SUPERantispyware and it removed a bunch of stuff. Now the computer is as clean as a whistle. But the virus I caught was a biotch!

Though not practical for some an easy way to avoid this type of situation is to use Mac or a Linux variant ...

I gave up W*****s a while back and couldn't be happier!

    However thanks for the warning.

An easier way is to always run Anti-virus software. You can get many good ones for around 40 bucks a year. If you dont have AV, then your just playing the odds and soon enough your gonna get burned.
