I bought a Catalina Aquarium 1800/CA 1800 pump to power my berlin classic xl and the pump is rated at 635gph and barely producing skimmate. My question in this post actually is that the website says that it has a triple venturi and I think I know what they are talkin about. There are these three spots on the pump but how do I use those and what good are they? Do I need to run airline tubing from them or what cause my skimmer has a venturi valve also.

You can try to restrict the water leaving the protein skimmer with a valve and skim a bit wetter, as the red sea berlins skim very dry.

How does a valve restrict the water. I'll try it and see what happens I guess

By placing a valve on the two outflow pipes from the skimmer and slowly incremently closing them, you will cause the water level in the skimmer to rise and the bubbles will be closer to the skimmer cup and cause it to produce more dilute skimmate. It's a balancing act trying to produce decent skimmate without filling the cup with very weak skimmate, by altering the valve you can adjust how wet you want to skim.

I'm referring to the triple venturi that is said to be on the pump.

Just tried all the googles for this pump and ended up on the manufacturers webpage and some blogspots but no info. I'm not sure how the triple venturi would work but I guess it is like a normal venturi but with 3 intake holes? You could try putting your question to the manufacturer Their contact us now form is here
