So, my fiance is getting her cat shipped to our apt. & I'm not sure what to expect. The cat is about 6 years old and has a very laid back demeanor. I have a 55g reef with open tops & light fixture mounted on legs over it. I was wondering if I should get a canopy/top or not? I don't believe the cat has ever seen a fish tank before.

I know all cats are different, but for all that have cats & tanks, how have they been with yours?

    Thanks!

Good to know, we will have a squirt gun ready in case. Do I need to use RO/DI water or tap :)?

Here is my GF's cat Oliver. Super laid back - if anything he likes the bright light which reminds him of the sun I guess. His sister Peach also does not seem to be too interested in the fish and instead basks in the light cast off the fixture.

Nice, Oliver's cute! I'm hoping our cat will be the same & maybe watch but not mess with anything. I've heard she likes to lay on things, where she currently is there are reptile tanks that she lays on top of because of the warmth. Since there's really no room to get under my light, I'm hoping she doesn't attempt to get under it. I'm thinking the water will scare her though.

RO/DI water for sure! Less spots on the outside of your glass ;D

You could use one of these and take the cat as carry on luggage,it would also keep it out of the tank.;D

I have handful of fish tanks where I live.

The cats, at first, showed great interest in the HUGE NEW 120 gallon tank in their house. They even tried the water. Once it turned to saltwater tho, it only took one little lick and now neither one of them will go near the open top.

Hhahahah I've seen these before - for some reason the cats don't seem to enjoy being transported using that thing . . . weird I know.

my cat jumped up on my tank once....and repeat once! His back claws went into the tank and he scurried away very hacked! Never tried to get back on there again!

I have set up tv trays in front of my tank for him to sit and watch and he is happy with that! But lately I had lids on my tank because I had fish on suicide watch!
