chaeto growing weird?

My chaeto has definitely been growing since I got it a month ago. It is in my fuge with a reverse cycle 6500K 60W bulb. But my question is how is the chaeto supposed to grow? I was informed that the tangled mass just gets bigger and bigger. But my tangle has actually stayed the same size...it has just put out a really long trailer with long leaves - kind of like a root or maybe a long straight branch with leaves. Is this how chaeto is supposed to grow?

got pictures?it does'nt sound like chaeto.it should look like a tangled mass of grean fishing string.no leaves.mine spreads out till its a 4 inch thick mat floating in my sump.then i take out half of it.

 

low flow it spreads out, higher flow it thickens.
