I have Chaeto in my sump and I have not seen it noticeably grow in the few weeks I've had it in there. It's packed with pods. Are they eating it?

It is a possibility your pods are eating it or your lighting isn't enough or you do not have enough nitrate and phosphate to feed it.

Could be a good thing. How old is the tank? Nitrate and phosphate levels?

Just a basic type of light, not sure exactly what as I was given it with the whole tank.

0 for nitrate, cant measure phosphate in my kit. I use RODI water and feed with frozen foods.

Could be your problem, no nutrients. That's a good thing. Mine rarely grows too (essentially have 0 bio load).
