Ok, so I got a decent-sized chalice a couple days ago. Now, I've noticed a small section (about 1 square inch) that's "bubbled" up off of the skeleton. There's a hole in the skeleton on the side where it's bubbled off, and I think the flow in the tank keeps "puffing" this spot up with water. Will the tissue reattach to the skeleton? Should I put some epoxy on the hole in the side of the skeleton to keep stuff from getting in, and to keep it from puffing up?

Where it's "bubbling"; I pushed it back down a bit ago, so it hasn't gotten to the point where it's obvious in the blurry variety of photos I can take at night with one hand while holding the coral with the other and focusing using a flashlight:

This is the hole in the bottom, right near where it's bubbling. It's deeper than the other 'divets'; they don't go nearly as deep:

I would say just leave it alone and watch it. If it gets worse, like tissue begins to die or recede then do something. My lps get bubbles from time to time and I finally realized it was a sign of growth so I quit worrying. Then my digi gets a bubble and I freaked out and wanted to try to help it but made myself leave it be. Turns out it's the beginning of a new branch.

It just worries me because it's a pretty big portion of a pretty expensive coral lol. I got a picture, since it bubbled pretty quickly this time, but photobucket decided to do maintenance around now.

The weirdest thing is that it's in the middle of the coral off to the side, not really at an edge or anything. The bubble is also pretty tall in the middle, maybe 3/4 to 1 inch, and it seems to be dependent on the direction of the flow around it. It bubbled quickly when I first put it down, and then I pushed it down and turned it, and it took a couple hours to bubble back up.

Chalice is a LPS coral and LPS puff up and deflate especially around mouths. If there is no damaged tissue don't sweat it, it is all natural.

I would leave it alone. By pushing the flesh back in you have probably hurt something anyway.

Just to rule out it's water from underneath, I would epoxy the hole. It can't really hurt it, just don't shove it into the hole. I would be more worried about those white spots to the left of the bubble. It looks like some sort of tissue recession. Was it like that at the store?

No, it wasn't. I put it in a spot about halfway up in the tank when I first put it in, but behind a rock and under some loc-line; it was there for about a half hour, but I guess it caught too much light that it wasn't used to in that small area. The tips of the "bumps" ended up turning white too; the big patch is starting to get a bit more blue now, and the tips aren't as bad as they were, so I'm pretty sure I've got it in the right spot now.

The thing is, it isn't around a mouth, it's in between them.

Alright, so I epoxied up the hole, and it's not blowing up anymore. It seems that flow into those holes was a reason for it.

In other news, chalices seem to be super-efficient snot factories when stressed; they're better than protein skimmers at making goop. The mucus is all over the tank.
