I was wondering if anyone runs just Chemi Pure Elite in their Reactor? I was hoping to stick with just one reactor on my 55g. Because the CPE acts as carbon + lowers phosphates (and is supposed to last longer), am I better off running just the CPE than say just Rowa?

If so, how much CPE would I need for a TLF 150 reactor and would I dump it in or keep it bagged?

Here's the blurb & link on the CPE: Chemi-Pure Elite adds ferric oxide to the original Chemi-Pure formula to also remove phosphates and silicates, making it the only complete choice for filtering any kind of aquarium.
Aquarium Chemical Filtration Media: Chemi-Pure Chemical Filter Media

It seems like a no-brainer, but why do many run two reactors still with seperate medias if this was the wonder media it's advertised to be?

    Thanks,
    Joe

i use it. 1 10oz bag and 1 5oz bag in a striped down HOB filter on my 55 gallon. the instructions tell you not to open the bag for some reason, not sure why.

it helped me get over the 10ppm hump with nitrates, now at zero
still at .25 po4 but i do use tap water (not much longer)
helped me get rid of a small diatom bloom which i take as lowering the silicates (although i dont test for them)

i would assume that a reactor would work even better, not sure though.
if you use RO/DI and arent having a po4 problem the "elite" might be overkill. then again its not horribly more $$$ so probably worth it

bottom line...i like it, plan to continue using it, and would recommend it

A very solid product. Just make sure to rinse that sucker or you'll have one heck of a cloudy tank!

Got it, thanks for the info. I am slowly converting over to RO/DI water. I had initially started up my FOWLR with tap and as I got into corals began getting RO/DI water from the LFS. I now have my own unit but I'm sure I have had phosph build-up from the initial tap water use. I have been running just Rowa in a reactor but toying with the idea of another reactor for carbon. So, after seeing the write up on Chemi Pure Elite it seemed too good to be true, combining both elements of what I was looking for in one media.

I have been running chemi pure and purigen in a canister for a long, long time now. A year or so ago I switched to chemi pure elite and have been very pleased with the product. Using this I do not use carbon and I only replace the media aver 2-3 months.

Rowa-phos works VERY well with CPE and purigen -- these three are the best combo I have some across.

If you had to just run one media though, would you rather the Rowa or the CPE?
